Different Kettle
She was a puzzle--she never made sense
But she was the one that tore down my fence
And brought my life up to a more present tense
For that I will always be grateful
She was a creature from some darker world
She was a woman/a monster/a girl
In trying to straighten out life's tangled curls
She ended up shaving her head
She gave me a flower with petals blood-red
She gave me an egg--"A symbol," she said
She gave me a biscuit that I might be fed
While waiting for dinner to cook
She was her own favorite dish
She was a different kettle of fish
She was a mountain jutting out of the sea
She was a particle too tiny to see
She was all this and much more to me
For that I will always be grateful
She never knew the power she had
She finally imploded--an ending so sad
The last time I saw her she was haggard and mad
A shadow of what she once was
She was the granting of her own wish
She was different kettle of fish
